Stricter measures at dog shows?
The Paparua County Council will probably [tighten up surveillance at I dog shows in the county. I At the Canterbury Kennel [Association dog show at McLeans Island last month, only one dog owner in four carried the repaired dosing certificate, the chief hydatids control officer (Mr C. P. Catchpole) told the county’s finance committee on Monday. ' Approximately 700 dogs were entered. The response was “very disappointing,” Mr Catchpole said, because “on many occasions the Kennel Association has said that its members all comply with the reguirements of the Dogs’ Registration Act and Hydatids Act.” The acts required owners to carry dosing certificates
ylor proofs of registration /[when dogs were moved tlabour the country, he said. At the show on April 30 lithree officers attempted sur--11 veillance by stopping each ,[car, but the time taken hearting explanations caused cari ?[to bank up for a mile and a s half, according to assocfJation officials, and delayed s[judging by an hour. -■ The inspectors retired at [that point, Mr Catchpole s said. si The finance committee ’(recommended to the full : I council that the association s I learn of the council’s coni(cern and displeasure, and its ’(intention to have inspectors riat all its shows. 11 It wanted the council to meet association representatives to find ways of making > inspections without dis- ” rupting traffic or judging.
