Two orchestras

Sir, — I suggest that Cr Rich’s statement (“The Press,” May 26) concerning the setting up of the Canterbury Orchestra Trust might have been relevant three years ago, but not now. Since his departure from the C.S.O. board the situation has changed. The arguments have ceased ever since the board altered its structure in order to have less political interference. Regarding the waste of money: isn’t the Trust doing just that now? The $27,500 from the combined local bodies, coupled with the $70,000 or so from the Arts Council, is a very large amount when one considers the small number of people who attend the concerts. When it comes 'to orchestral value for money the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra wins hands down. — Yours, £tc.,< C. D. BRODRICK. May 26, 1977.
