Lunar Chance back to best

PA Auckland Last season’s New Zealand Cup winner, Lunar Chance, has found something like his best form for Cambridge horseman, Charlie Hunter, who is campaigning him in New Jersey. In a phone call to Auckland on Sunday, Hunter reported he had just won with Lunar Chance in Imln 57.25ec at Meadowlands. He also advised that another former New Zealand pacer, Emery Wheel, sold from his stable soon after being exported by the Central Standardbred Agency last year, had also just won again at Meadowlands, this time in Imln 57.35ec.

The top Auckland trotting mare, Petite Evander, in what was probably her last U.S. race before moving out for feature racing in Denmark and Sweden, was narrowly and unluckily beaten in a trotting feature at Meadowlands, in which, amazingly, she broke Imln 57sec. There was bad news, however, from .California, where top trainer Roy Purdon, of Clevedon, was injured in an off-loading incident. After a horse pallet had inadvertently rolled over on one of Purdon’s feet, he had to be admitted to hospital and have a toe amputated. Purdon Is in California to race and sell a team comprising the trotter. Tuteena, and the pacers, Hey Dryden, Mabella and Lou Foyle. While Purdon is recuperating, the horses, which all travelled well, are resting at a spelling farm in the care of an attendant, Kirsty Lang.
