Christchurch as a conference city
Sir, — I have returned to Hong Kong after attending the P.B.E.C. conference and am writing to express my disagreement with the article (“The Press,” May 12) which suggests that your city was a disappointment. If this sentiment was expressed, it does not represent the majority opinion. Some of the delegates might have preferred being put all under one roof, but I can think of nothing that would have been worse. My wife and I were accommodated in a hotel which gave us the opportunity each morning of walking to the Town Hall through North Hagley Park and the beautiful Botanic Gardens. In the lovely autumn weather this was a delight. The Town Hall could not have been better for the deliberations. I am sure I write for the majority of the P.B.E.C. delegates that the facilities were excellent, the organisation admirable, and Christchurch a first class choice. I would like to thank the people of Christchurch for their hospitality. — Yours, etc., N. A. RIGG. Hong Kong. May 17, 1977.
