Minister for Parklands

An -Anglican minister, the Rev. W. A. Childs, has been appointed the first minister to work at Parklands, an area of housing development at Burwood, north of Mairehau Road.

Mr Childs will work on behalf of the Anglican, Presbyterian, and Methodist Churches.

The Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) said that he hoped Mr Childs’s work would develop ecumenically round one centre.

Local community buildings would be used for worship, as there were no church buildings in Parklands at present, Bishop Pyatt said. Mr Childs was formerly a Church Army officer and since his ordination has worked at North New Brighton, Redwood, and Woodend. Mr Childs will probably take up his duties in February.
