‘Navy man not demoted’
PA Wellington ■ A statement published earlier this week that Commander D. J. Harris, the Deputy Director of Defence Intelligence, had been reassigned to a position in Auckland as a result of a disciplinary move was incorrect, the Defence Department spokesman (Commander R. E. Williams) said.
Commander Harris had written a series of articles in the “Listener." under a nom-de-plume, about New Zealand’s defence policies. Commander Williams said he wished to make it clear that Commander Harris had been posted to Auckland, at his own request, preparatory to leaving the service early next year. He had applied to leave the Navy some time before the question of his authorship of the articles had arisen.
