Girls beat Christ’s
PA Wellington A team of three girls from Rangitoto College, Auckland, beat the Christ’s College team in the final of the secondary schools debating contest in Wellington yesterday. In a debate “That tourism is a menace to the environment” the girls, Sarah Brown, Barbara Lamond, and Denise Aitken, took the negative side against the College team of John Newton, David Kirkpatrick, and Michael Gilchrist.
The Rangitoto team won a trophy presented by the New Zealand Jaycees, the organiser of the contest. The N.A.C. Trophy for the best speaker went to Barbara Lamond.
A cheque of $2OO went to the winning school, and $lOO to the other finalist.
