Firm lands school contract
The camtract to build the new general studies block at Timaru Boys’ High School has been won by C. Lund and Son, Ltd, of Timaru. Work on the two-storeyed building is part of a SIM redevelopment. The architects for the project are Messrs Austin and Warren (Christchurch). It should be completed in time for the start of the 1978 school year.
It will be built with bricks and will include a 100-seat lecture theatre in tiers, two laboratories, preparation rooms, fbur classrooms, and a staff r.isource room. It will be connected to the east block (fronting Oxford Street) by a glassed-in bridge on the first floor and a covered walkway at ground lewel. Tenders for the second part of the stage one development plan, building a
new boilerhouse, will close j tomorrow. 1 The old brick assembly 'hall, which has the existing j boiler and electrical switch- ' board for the entire school, will be demolished during I the 1977-78 Christmas holidays. Re-wiring must be completed in time for the first term. Between then, and when the heaters are turned on in May, covered walkways, which will also carry heating ducts, must be completed between the boilerhouse and other buildings. Tenders for building a single storey arts and crafts block on the site of the old gymnasium, (stage two of the works programme,) close on December 7. The old gymnasium will be demolished and the site cleared by Education Department works staff during the coming Christmas holiday break.
