Home buyers to get help

PA , Wellington The first steps towards a home guidance service for New Zealand have been ainounced by the Minister of Housing (Mr Gair). The Housing Corporation has been instructed to recruit staff for the first branch of such a service in Auckland — to act as a trial. The service, which was promised in National’s 1975 manifesto, would fill a gap in the information services} available to people wanting to buy a house, said Mr Gair. It vaould bring under one roof an organisation to provide basic information cm all aspects of house purchase, or to

direct people to existing organisations serving their particular needs. “The aim is to ensure that people seeking to buy houses can be fully advised at all stages, including their initial budgeting.” Mr Gair said he hoped to have the Auckland branch opened by April. Its work would be reviewed after six months, and the experience gained would enable the Government to decide the best way to expand the service. Administrative support for the service would be provided by the Housing Corporation, but it was for anyone — not just corporation clients — seeking advice about buying a house.
