Wallabies have good win
NZPA Perigueux The Wallabies’ test buildup gained momentum on Sunday with a 15-9 win over a selection XV led by the French rugby, captain, Jacques Fouroux. It was easily the best Australian performance of the tour, founded on solid scrummaging and a clear dominance in line-outs.
Although the Australian backline did not fully capitalise on the consistent possession won by the forwards they showed cohesian for the first time in four matches in France.
Tennis. — Manuel Orantes (Spain! beat Eddie Dibba (United States) in the final of the $US10O,(XI0 Madrid tennis grand prix in Spain. The Spaniard won a tense first set and then raced to victory 7-6, 6-2, 6-1. Rugby.—The Northcote Birkenhead rugby team, from Auckland, suffered the first defeat of its British tour, 16-13, at the hands of Cross Keys in Wales at the week-end.
Baseball.—The Cincinnati Reds defeated the New York Yankees, 4-3, to take a 2-0 lead in games in the World Series.
