Birdie earns golf victory
NZPA-Reuter San Antonio Butch Baird birdied the first play-off hole — the thirty-seventh of a long day — and beat Miller Barber for top honours in the $U5125,000 San Antonio open golf tournament in Texas yesterday. Baird had to roll in a 15foot putt on the seventysecond hole to gain the playoff and tie Barber at 15-under-par 273. Barber parred the sudden-death playoff hole with a 15-foot putt, but Baird sunk his birdie putt from 12 feet.
