Eagles aim for $l000
The Eagles Society is an exclusive golfing organisation, but its members — administrators who have given notable service and representative players of distinction — do more for the game than talk about it. It is a nation-wide organisation, and guarantees to raise $lO,OOO a year for the Murray Halberg Trust for crippled children. In each district, fund-raising golf tournaments are held each year. Last year the Canterbury Eagles Society — limited to 50 members — made $lOOO for the charity with its tournament; and it is hoped to raise a similar sum with the 1976 tournament at Coringa on Thursday.. Experience has demanded that a field as large as that of last year should be split, so this time there will be a morning tournament — times can be booked from 8 a.m. — and an afternoon tournament, starting at. 12.30 p.m.
It will be stableford competition each time, with separate events for men and women players. An impressive collection of prizes has been sponsored, so that almost every dollar raised through the entry fees will be available for the Halberg Trust.
