MacKinnon run possible for Balmerino
Special correspondent Cambridge Mr R. K. Stuart, the owner of Balmerino, said at the Cambridge training track yesterday that he did not think that Balmerino would be starting in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley and that he would make his mind up about the Melbourne Cup after returning to Australia about the end of next week. Mr Stuart, who is home briefly said, “there is a nerve in Balmerino’s back which is catching him when the pressure goes on, otherwise he is a very fit horse and I certainly don’t think things are as bad as I have been reading about.” Mr Stuart said that he had not given up hopes of Balmerino starting in the Melbourne Cup and if the horse missed the Cox Plate, the -MacKinnon Stakes at Flemington a few days before the Melbourne Cup could be a likely lead-up race.
