Theatre manners
Sir, — For some time the impression has been given that the Town Hall staff, although courteous, is inadequate to cope with large audiences. The adverse criticism by readers of audiences and usherettes at the Canadian Mime Theatre visit seems unfair. Our party went to the matinee performance. Arriving in good time, we were required to join the lengthy queue up the stairway indicated on tickets. Apparently there was insufficient staff to cope, and no liaison between them and backstage staff to request a delay of the curtain; consequently the first four items were disrupted by flashing torches in the stalls. The last of our party — a Korean visitor — found his own way to his seat in the circle during the fourth item. It says much for the quality of the show that these snags did not spoil our enjoyment. — Yours, etc., JUNE HARVEST. September 17, 1976.
