The Canterbury Table Tennis Association's building improvement fund should be boosted substantially next month when the association holds its Mount Cook Airlines “Pingpongathon.” Several of Canterbury’s New . Zealand-ranked players have promised to compete in the twoday ordeal, which w’ill be held at the association’s hall in Sei-' wyn Street on October 16 and 17. Hours of play for the two days! will extend from 9 a.m. to 11; | p.m. Players will be allowed only hree minutes rest each half-' hour. There is an incentive for the narticipants—the player earning
the most for the building fund will receive a return trip for two to Mount Cook. In response to a request from the national association, the Can ! terbury association has nomin-i ated Mr A. R. Tomlinson (Auck-| land) a former New Zealand! champion, as manager of the; New Zealand team for the Com-! monwealth and world champion-; ships next year. Two distinguished Canterbury coaches, Messrs Ling Nan Ming iand T. R. D. Flint, have been! I nominated for the position of ■coach to the team. The trip isj still subject to the necessary; i money being raised. j
