Costs in court action

Sir, —It seems quite ironic that New Zealand must pay the price for the illegal activities of this country’s Prime Minister. I refer, of course, to the outcome of the court case granting Mr Fitzgerald costs for his prosecu-

tion of Mr Muldoon earlier this year. As a result, the country has to forfeit the sum of $2500 for Mr Muldoon’s irresponsible and undemocratic action. The country should demand that he himself should concur in the costs involved, as indeed he alone mastered the action, although he stoops to hide behind his Cabinet in respect of the illegality. If this country, in the future, has to pay all the costs of our Prime Minister’s illegal and dictatorial acts, then New Zealand is doomed to certain, rapid bankruptcy.—Yours, etc., C. K. HAMPTON.
