Conserving energy
Sir, —In the otherwise very clear account in the Reporter’s Diary on Saturday of one or two key points in the discussion at the seminar on Energy Conservation and Planning held recently by the Environmental Vanguard Organisation, there is one statement which needs correction. Your report says that in reply to a question posed to them about what suggestions they would make for energy conservation now, should there be a desire to defer nuclear power in New Zealand as long as possible, most members of the panel said that "the domestic and space heating load should be shifted from electricity.” As well as suggesting that the demand for electricity for space heating should be reduced, the panellists also emphasised the need to reduce th«’ water heating load. The statement in the report should have read, "most [members of the panel] said that the domestic water and space heating load should be shifted from electricity.” — Yours, etc., HELEN HERVEY, Chairman, Environmental Vanguard Organisation. August 8, 1976.
