Wayne Adamson, the South Island table tennis champion, added to his impressive list of titles this season when he won the North Otago open championship at Oamaru on Saturday. Adamson beat the Canterbury Easter champion, John Armstrong, in four games. In the semi-finals Adamson had defeated his Selwyn club-mate, Neville Brightwell, in four games, and Armstrong was extended to the fifth by South Canterbury’s number one, Barry Butler. A member of Canterbury’s Teagle Shield team, Christine Kehoe, beat the young South Canterbury player, Karen Wilson, in four games in the women’s final. Adamson and Armstrong beat Brightwell and Frank Cleverly (North Otago) in the men’s doubles, and Miss Kehoe and Nancy Wilson (North Otago) won the women’s event.
Miss Kehoe had her third success when she partnered Armstrong to win the mixed doubles in straignt games. Adamson won the under 21 title and Mark Clasper won the under 16 singles.
