Andrews for Hong Kong
PA Auckland Brian Andrews, one of the leading jockess in New Zealand, has decided to move to Hong Kong. He made this announcement after riding the Matamata three- \ ear-old. Optician, home in Saturday’s $10,500 Taumarunui Cup at Te Awamutu. He was approached recently by an unidentified Hong Kong racing identity to be on hand for the opening of the racing season there on October 9, but prior engagements during the rich Melbourne spring carnival will mean he will miss the first four weeks of the Hong Kong season.
Andrews was offered a riding contract with the exclusive Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1973 when he represented New Zealand at the Asian Racing Conference in Turkey.
During a stay in Hong Kong en route to Turkey he had six mounts for five placings. He flew back to Hong Kong on his return to New Zealand to consider the proposal but declined the offer.
Andrews said yesterday morning that he had yet to decide whether he would ride under contract or free-lance in Hong Kong. "I will wait until I get up there and weigh things up before making up my mind/* he said.
