Grey Way 59kg in Craven ' A’

The Epsom Handicap topweight, Tontonan, has also been awarded top-weight of 59.5 kg in the Craven “A” Stakes to be run over 1200 m at Flemington on October 30. Second spot in the weights goes to the Washdyke galloper Grey Way, which has been given 59kg. Grey Way has been booked on a flight to Australia early in October. The top North Island sprinter, Shifnal Chief, lies equal third in the weights at 57.5 along with the two Australians, Cheyne Walk and Cap d’Antibes. Blue Blood comes next of the New Zealand horses, along with the good Australian sprinters, Leica Show and Toy Show on 56.5.

New Zealanders further down the list include All Shot

on 55.5, Mop and Panagor 53.5, and Stevo 53. Duntroon and Secret Show are equally weighted at 51. METROPOLITAN The dual Melbourne Cup winner, Think Big, has been allocated top-weight of 61kg for the A.J.C. Metropolitan Handicap to be run over 2600 m on October 4. Taras Bulba comes next with 59kg, followed by four well-performed New Zealand runners. The South Island mare, Show Gate, heads this group with 57kg. Battle Heights has 56.5, Jandell 56 and the Parliamentary winner, Cattle King 55.5. Other New Zealand-breds prominent in the Metropolitan weights are Grand Scale and Timon 54.5, Rosie’s Girl 53.5, and Tonic Time and Trochee 53. Flash Affair is lower down the weights along with Leilani’s full brother Ready O’Ready on 51.5. The 1600 m George Adams Handicap, as have the other big Australian spring races, has drawn strong representation from New Zealand horses.

The crack miler, Kiwi Can, heads the list with topweight of 60kg, half a kilo more than Tontonan. Grey Way has 59 while Shifnal Chief has 57.5. Further down come Blue Blood 56.5, All Shot 56, Show Gate 55.5,

Mansingh 55, My Cue 54.5, Mer’cler, Mop and Panagor 53.5, Lone Hand and Tonic Time 53, Princess Patrice 52.5, Cream Puff and Vamamo 52, Syndrome 51.5, Dumar and Duntroon 51 and Secret Show 50.5.

Of the light-weights, Fair Warning and Thunderchief have 50kg and Bartlesville and Elton have 49.
