Parliamentary reform
Sir, —Any concern for "liberal democratic sanity” by way of a Parliamentary reform as suggested by your Parliamentary reporter’s over-optimistic if not misleading article on Parliamentary reform, can only begin at the beginning. Parliament will never change in the sense of a greater democratic representation of the people so long as we retain an unrepresentative electoral method of voting. Mr Minogue’s concern would appear to be the retention of the status quo by amending the more glaring anomalies of the existing set-up; not, as your reporter infers, a real concern for liberal democracy. Least of all for a greater representation of the people.—Yours, etc.,
L. J. ROBINSON. August 2, 1976.
