Values Party puts money near mouth
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 19. The Values Party has set a budget of $166,000 for the next three years, $lOO,OOO of which will be used to campaign in the 1978 General Election. The budget reflects a big commitment by the party’s
members, estimated at about 1500. The outgoing treasurer (Mr N. Williams) said enough money was held for administration expenses for one month and the organiser’s salary for six weeks. He told the annual conference of the party at Blockhouse Bay, Auckland, that last year the party had spent more than $36,000, about $15,000 of which had been spent on the election campaign.
The $22,000 administration budget approved for the next 12 months allows for a $5OO honorarium for the leader and his deputy, and a
$lO,OOO salary and expense account for the organiser. The conference also approved in principle that $20,000 should be raised in addition this year, $30,000 next year, and $50,000 in 1978, towards the election campaign budget. Mr Williams said that the proposal to raise $42,000 this year represented $3O a party member. The budget for the threeyear period received overwhelming support from the conference.
The feeling of the conference was expressed by one delegate who said it was time the party put its money where its mouth was.
