Swim final to Otago man

Seventeen - year - old lan [Bullock, from Otago, set a [New South Wales record (when he won the final of the 100 metres backstroke at the New South Wales age championships at North Sydney Olympic pool. Bullock swam the distance in 1 min. 4.36 sec., clipping almost three seconds off the record of 1 min. 7.35 sec. set in the heats by Bruce McAllister of Sydney.
Bullock is a member of a 24-member squad that has been taking part in the championships at the invitation of the New South Wales ‘Amateur Swimming Association.
Earlier, Allison Calder, also from Otago, finished second in the 15 years 400 metres freestyle, which was won by Wendy McLean of Sydney. Bullock’s win was the second success by a New Zealander in the championships, following Stephen Griffin’s victory in the 16 years 100 metres breaststroke.
