Shock win over N.S.W.

, BRISBANE. Queensland gained a sensational outright win over New South Wales in the Sheffield , Shield match at the Brisbane [ Cricket Ground yesterday. After being set the seemingly impossible task of scoring 165 in 77 minutes, Queensland reached the target with one of the 15 compulsory overs in the last hour remaining. The runs came in 90 minutes off only 16.7 overs. Greg Chappell and Sam Trimble shared an opening partnership of 146 in 72 minutes for Queensland. Chappell hit 86 off 55 balls with II fours and a six. He took 22 off one over from Gary Gilmour: The 41-year-old Trimbte was 66 not out scored in 90 minutes with 11 fours. ' New South Wales was earlier i(dismissed in its second innings [ for 141. Trimble was chaired from the ground by his excited teammates in one of the greatest moments of his long career. Scores: Queensland 227/9 decl. and 165/2, New South Wales I 250/7 decl. and 141 (J. Thomson 3/59). ’ At the week-end Western Aus- ’ tralia fought back from 107 for ! seven to 195 (J. Inverarity 66 . not out) without further loss, to beat Victoria (193/8) in the ’ first round of the Gillette Cup in Perth.
