Superannuation and benefits
Sir, — May I make it crystal clear to your correspondent “Also Wondering” and to all readers who contribute to firms’ retirement schemes, insurance, Government superannuation or any form of retirement income, that income derived from such sources is. deducted from the 60-year-old benefit by the Labour Party’s means test. The National Party will remove this restriction to allow people who contribute to both the age pension through taxes, and any form of personal retirement income by choice, to receive both in full. This would increase their retirement income by approximately $7O a week at present rates. Personal assurance of this fact may be obtained by telephoning the National Party headquarters as I did, and asking for their brochure on superannuation and pensions. The means test has been abolished in Australia. Why does this injustice continue here? If you contribute fully to both you should receive fully from both. — Yours, etc., WONDERING. October 27, 1975.
