Canterbury Orchestra Trust

Sir, — From the evasive reply by Mr Bradshaw to specific questions from Donald Dailey, we may infer that the figures quoted by the latter are substantially correct. Far from being “attacked,” Mr Bradshaw was merely asked to supply information which every ratepayer has the right to know. With a second performance about to be mounted, I wish to not only repeat my earlier protest against the commuting and boarding expenses of imported players, using public funds, but additionally to express my ire about the use of ratepayers’ money to provide free tickets to assemble “a large and warmly appreciative audience” (as quoted by Mr Bradshaw from C.F.8.). However, if ratepayers’ money must indeed be spent in this way, in the “efforts to restore some respectability to the orchestral scene,” perhaps the concert could be staged in 'the auditorium and a free [ticket be provided to every ratepayer. — Yours, etc.,

E. J. BEUZENBERG. October 25, 1975.
