Schoolteachers’ pay
Sir, — Our modern-day primary pedagogue has been aroused from her perennial slumber. No mean effort; and note, it took salaries to interest her. Any perusal of the Public Service Gazette would support my argument that primary teachers are well paid. Your correspondent “King among Kids” W'rote the sensible letter. The principal of 400 children would have an infant mistress well versed in “social growth and child-centred learning situations.” Half of his awful responsibility relieved. Then he has a deputy principal, plus other senior staff to discuss educational concepts stretching way up to his Standard 4 level. The primary service is expert at making simple things difficult and is so expert that it commands and: gets $6BOO for the most! junior positions and up to' $11,310 for the principal. I am entitled to ask: “Is this justified?” — Yours, etc., TAXPAYER.
