General Election
Sir, — In the personal statement of Mr E. S. F. Holland. National candidate for Riccarton, he says: “Abortion is one of the things which affect women, and women’s issues are likely to be of some concern in my area.” Will Mr Holland state categorically for the benefit of the women in his area, whether he favours the further extension of facilities such as the Remuera clinic for the provision of abortion. — Yours, etc., ETHEL GLUBB. October 20, 1975.
[Mr Holland replies: “I can say quite plainly that, as. a general rule, I do not favour the growth of clinics which are devoted solely to the carrying out of abortions. Nevertheless, provided abortions are carried out in accordance with the law I can see some advantages in providing some kind of counselling service for those women seeking abortions, and would
far prefer a clinic, subject to Health Department inspection, where proper hygienic methods are employed to a proliferation of back-street abortionists.”]
