One game to unbeaten hockey tour
nv.Z.P.A. Staff Crspdt) LONDON. The New Zealand women's hockey team has only the English under-23 team standing between it and an unbeaten record on its tour of Canada, West Germany, and Britain. It beat Southern Counties, 4-1, yesterday in a match played on . a heavy ground that had to have water swept [off it before play could start, i The rain’ held off during the match, and although the New Zealanders had to use a lot of scoop shots and to push the ball rather than hit it. when passing, they managed to maintain control and improve their authority as time progressed. Southern Counties, fielding a team that included the English captain, Annette White, on the left wing, and the English goal-keeper, Pauline Gibbon, scored first through the right inner, Jenny Trickey. But New Zealand’s right wing, Carol Duske, levelled soon after when she recovered a shot that had re- [ bounded off Miss Gibbon’s [pads, and the score was 1-1 lat half-time.
In the second half, goals were scored for New Zealand by the right inner, Shirley Haig, the left wing, Pip Lunn, and Mrs Duske. The last two came after penalty-comer*.
