GAS CAR IN FIRST RALLY
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Mike Marshall, winner of the Heatway Rally, is ready to give natural gas its motorsport debut today in the last round of the Marlboro Rally championship. His Escort has been con- ! verted to run on gas instead of petrol. n previous attempt to rally the car earlier this month was frustrated by engine problems. After driving the car to Whangarei and back on Wednesday night Marshall said in Auckland that he was impressed with the smoother power of the new motor. It will now pull from lower revolutions than previously, giving better flexibility in the gears. However, it is not developing as much power as a normal engine. Marshall estimates he will have only about 17 brake horsepower and not the usual 200 plus.
