Teacher training
Sir, — I would like to comment on the statement by Mr Purves on teacher training. His theories definitely apply to the new open plan system being introduced into
some Canterbury schools. Is it fair to expect students appointed as teachers to I these schools to teach with- i out adequate training unless i they haye been fortunate ; enough to have had a section ( jin such a school? I understand a course in this type of' teaching is now being con-,: sidered. Why was it not done;; earlier before the introduc- I tion of a system described by one senior lecturer in educa- - tion as one of New Zealand’s(educational blunders. These - teachers are already over- i loaded, many working long:, (hours a day to establish an .congenial class system. Is it'; (fair to expect them to train; young teachers as well ash learn it themselves as they!, have few resources other thanil books and their own in-j genuity to turn to. — Yours, |i etc., h CONCERNED PARENT. i September 25, 1975.
