Instant poverty
Mr Emil Claerhout, an 83-year-old restaurant owner in Columbus, Michigan, did not trust banks because he lost his savings in the bank crashes of the Depression. He is now lying in fair condition at Mercy Hospital after being beaten on Monday night and found 10 hours later by one of his grandsons. Mr Claerhout was SUSIBS,OOO poorer. — Columbus (Michigan).
