Tax on goodwill
Sir, — The definition of land in the Property Speculation Tax Act, 1973, includes leasehold interests. The sale of the goodwill of a leasehold business such as a dairy is subject to payment of speculation tax. The Acting Minister of Finance (Mr Douglas) is misleading the public when he says it is not. — Yours, etc., ROBERT GODFREY. August 26, 1975.
