SELFISH RICH SLATED
Affluence, as well as povertv. was oppressive, the CORSO regional organiser for Canterbury (Mr R. A. Consedine) said in a statement yesterdav. Poverty was oppressive because of the suffering of disease and hunger, and affluence was oppressive by! the selfishness of materialism. “The Myth Exploders” was the first of a series of booklets published by CORSO in an attempt to educate the public on the causes of world poverty. The booklet looked at cliches such as "They’re poor because they have too many kids.” "Charity begins at home.” "If onlv thev would kill their cows” and "Why 1 don't thev help themselves?” | Articles in the booklet 1 ' have been taken from the, "New Internationalist” and; "Newsweek.” Copies are! available from CORSO offices and local committees.
