No takers for hill property, Halswell

All lots of a hill property of more than 66 acres on Kennedys Bush Road in Halswell were passed in at auction on Thursday. The auction, conducted by Dalgety Rea] Estate, was on behalf of Mr C. M. Usher. The auctioneer was Mr S. J. Brown. The first lot. of seven acres, three roods, included a six- ■ year-old five-bedroom house with chattels and the outbuildings. Bidding started at $70,000 and rose in $5OOO lots to $105,000, when bids of $2500 were accepted. These were further reduced to $lOOO and later $5OO lots, but the final bid was only $llO,OOO. Lot 2, of 20 acres with access from Kennedys Bush; Road. and frontage on I Glovers Road, brought no bids at the asking price of I $50,000, and none at $20,000. : The largest offering was I ’the third, of 32 acres with! frontage on Glovers Road,! tw'o houses and outbuildings.: No offers were received at $60,000. $40,000. and $30,000. The final three lots were building sites. Two, of two acres, two roods, 26 perches, ;and three acres, three point 'six perches, were on Hyndhope Road. Bidding for the first began at $lO,OOO and rose in $2OOO

lots to $lB,OOO, and lot four' received bids at $15,000,; $17,500. and $18,500. ■ The other building site of two acres, one rood and six perches on Kennedys Bush Road was passed in at $17,500 after bidding opened at $15,000. Mr Brown had initially asked for $25,000. Mr Brown said after the auction that negotiations for the sale of the properties were continuing. A two-storey slate-roofed house on zone four land at 411 Manchester Street was passed in at $29,500 on Wednesday. Twelve persons attended the auction, conducted by Mr P. J. Cook, of Simes and Company. The house, which had been divided into two flats, had a July. 1974, Government valuiation of $28,000. Bidding for the propertv began at' $28,000.
