Many crash on wet roads
In one of the worst days for motor accidents in Christchurch for sonic time, the St John Ambulance took 24 persons to hospital on Saturday.
Senior Traffic Officer R. J. Dellow said yesterday that the number of accidents could be attributed to the wet weather and motorists not driving according to the conditions. More than half of them occurred in daylight hours, which is most unusual for a Saturday. Many of those injured were treated at Christchurch Hospital and discharged, but five persons were admitted. At 7.30 p.m. on Saturday a car collided with the approach rail to the Blenheim Road bridge, and two men were later admitted to hospital. Errol George Clements,) aged 31, of 7 Brock worth'

Riccarton, suffered lacerations He was admitted to hospital, where his condition last evening was fairly comfortable. A 16-week-old child was admitted to hospital after two cars collided in Madras i Street, al 3.30 p.m. on Saturi day. Alexander George J Smith, of 131 Pages Road, jAranui, suffered head injuries, and last evening was in a satisfactory condition. On Sunday, at 1.30 p.m., I two cars collided on the cor- ! ner of Fitzgerald and Bealey | avenues. Miss Helen Staple- ! ton, aged 21, of 51 North )Avon Road, Richmond, suffered head injuries and lacerjations, and was admitted to ■ hospital, where her condition last evening was comfortable.
