Basketball coach disputes ruling
| <“The Press” Special Service) TAURANGA. . Y.M.C.A. lost to Marist of Wellington. 61-72, in the opening game in the Old Crow Men’s (basketball championships in Tauranga last night. Y.M.C.A. was ahead for most of the game and led 43-35 at half-time. But Y.M.C.A. was forced into error in the back court and failed to push the ball to leading scorer, S. Ferguson. The Y.M.C.A. coach, Mr Dempsey, believes a scoring error may have cost his team a win. Mr Dempsey said that the man of the match, Marist’s Paul Bevan, j had five fouls early in the ; second half and should have! been out of the game. However, the official made it four fouls and Bevan stayed in the game and' scored most of the rebounds. !
“Our statistician actually thought that he had six fouls against him and should have been out of the game much earlier. These sort of mis-! takes cannot be tolerated at basketball at this level,” said Mr Dempsey. Earlier, Mount Wellington; (Panmure) beat Bay of Plenty !
