Blue riband bridge
(“The Press’* Special Service) WELINGTON. The blue riband event of New Zealand contract bridge, the annual teams-of-four championship, will begin in Wellington this morning. Twenty teams are contesting a round-robin event of 10 deals a match. The last of the 19 rounds is expected to end late on Monday afternoon. The Auckland-Waikato four, captained by W. Linderman, of Auckland, will be attempting to win the title for the third consecutive year. Among the strongest oppopents will be the Christchurch four of R. P. Kerr (captain), J. R. Wignall, R. J. Brightling, and K. Wooles. Kerr, Wignall, and Brightling were members of the team which won the national championship in Christchurch in 197 L All three were away from New Zealand playing in the world championship contest for the Bermuda Bowl, when last year’s national | teams tournament was held in Wellington.
