Extensions declined
The Edgeware Bowling Club has been trying for 10 years to extend its facilities further into St Albans Park. Another application to the Christchurch City Council’s Parks and Recreations Committee yesterday was declined, subject to the endorsement of the full council meeting later this month. Extension into the park would involve the removal of (23 oak trees, the chairman (of the committee (Mr P. J. R. iSkeilerup) said in his report. I Members of the committee I who inspected St Albans Park unanimously agreed that the : trees should not be removed, he said.
“At one stage it looked as if a satisfactory arrangement had been reached between the council, the bowling club and the neighbouring croquet club, but it would have meant the removal of the trees.” The committee recommended that a sub-committee be appointed to find a suitable solution to the bowling club’s need for extensions.
