Good judo prospects

A 21-strong Canterbury -team is expected to make a eood showing in the Nev - Zealand judo championships [in Wellington today. [ The competitiors have [been training earnestly fir ] the championships since January, and gave an indication of their prospects by winning eight titles at the Wellington championships recently. The successful competitors on this occasion were Russell Prince, Murray Puddle, Vivienne Baker, and Sandra Manderson. This quartet should be prominent again today. Other Canterbury competitors with bright prospects are Graham Colson !and Gerald Standbridge in [the men’s division, Robert [Jackson and Mark Brown in 'the young men’s (16-19) [group, and Dianne Ramsay in the women's section. Considerable interest will be shown in the performances of Brent Hananeia. who has made a rapid improvement since moving from Twizel to Christchurch recently. Already he has risen two grades to green belt status, and appears to [be a fine prospect for the [future. There will be keen rivalry in Wellington today for places in the New Zealand team to take part in the Oceania championships in Christchurch on April 12 and 13.
