Intersection report
A Ministry of Transport report on the Cranford Street-Main North Road intersection, presented to the Christchurch Metropolitan Road Safety Committee requested the following points be considered — the possible installation of traffic lights, and an improvement in road markings and traffic islands. Copies of the report will be sent to the Ministry of Works, and the Christchurch City Council. The intersection met the standard for installing traffic; lights, the report said, but would have to take its place in order of priority. During evening peak hours 2538 vehicles passed through the I intersection. Statistics revealed the majority of accidents occurred with traffic turning right into Cranford Street, and that nine out of 15 accidents involved cyclists travelling south along the Main I North Road.
