Oysters on sale
lae first of the new season’s oysters went on sale in Christchurch yesterday, at an average of 65c a dozen. The secretary of. the Canterbury Fish Retailers’ Association (Mr B. E. Mather) said that the price was lower than expected, and the oysters were of a very high quality. “The price is marginally up on last year, but I expected them to sell for about 70c a dozen this season,” he said.
The season opened on Saturday, and oystermen have until August 31 to fill this year’s quota of 115,000 sacks.
