Farm subjects in schools
Sir, — I thank Mrs Sargent for her explanation of the remit put forward by the Mid Canterbury Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. A few years ago when farm courses were taught more in high schools we had boys deciding they would like to go on to Lincoln College, or even university, finding they had insufficient qualifying subjects, and Lincoln College saying they did not wish to teach subjects which boys should have learnt at school. I rather thought these were the reasons so many schools dropped farm subjects and it is something to be considered and guarded against. 1 still feel a vocational training should come after a good general education. — Yours etc.,
