Bowls title to Linwood
The Linwood entry of G. Kelly and G. Browne (skip) yesterday won the Christchurch Women’s Bowling Centre’s champion - of - champions pairs, beating F. Welsh and C. Deavoll (Heathcote), 18-16, in the final at Heathcote.
Mrs Browne led nearly all the way and held on to win after Mrs Welsh had played herself into a challenging position with a four on the fifteenth end. Both semi-finals were closely-contested, Mrs Browne beating V. Shaw (Barrington), 18-17, and Mrs Welsh coming from behind to eliminate K. Bradbury (Cashmere), 23-16. Quarter-finals resulted: Mrs Shaw 21, A. McDonald (Burwood) 20; Mrs Browne 21, E. Thompson (Halswell) 17; Mrs Bradbury 19, A. Whiting (Woolston W.M.C.) 17; Mrs Welsh 23, N. Packman (Edgeware) 11.
