Fire-alarm limitations
Applicants for the installation of fire alarms will in some instances be advised that alarms are insufficient in the particular circumstances, the Christchurch Metropolitan Fire Board decided yesterday. The chairman (Mr J. W. S. Stevens) said that an alarm did not give protection; it was an early-warning system. In many cases it was an early warning of total destruction of property. Sprinklers were much better protection, but they were expensive.
