Fluoridation
Sir, — One wonders if it is by accident or design that publicity relating to fluoridation is almost without exception in favour of the addition of fluoride to drinking water. By far the larger percentage of reticulated water is used for purposes other than drinking, which presupposes that fluoridation of water supply is a very wasteful use of the ratepayers’ money. The present City Council agreed with the past one under Mr Pickering that a referendum would be conducted after the election by whichever council was elected. Since the rates have increased to such an extent it could justly be surmised that the cost of a referendum is questionable, but equally questionable is the benefit obtained from the costly installation and upkeep of fluoridation. Dr Russell Scobie quotes New York as an example of compulsory medication but many cities have rejected or reversed decisions to fluoridate water. — Yours, etc., FREEDOM OF CHOICE.
