H.A.R.T. membership

Sir, —Mr T. Richards in the report on H.A.R.T. in “The Press,” February 14, makes no mention of money receiv received from churches, receipt of which he has admitted in the past. He also stated that no money came from overseas. Who, therefore, paid for his visit to Tanzania and Zambia, ahd for his talks in London with the agitator, P. Hain, and the United Kingdom AntiApartheid Committee, every sub-committee of which is controlled by Communists?— Yours, etc., A CURIOUS COVE February 23, 1975.

Sir, —I understand that at a meeting of the executive committee of the Public Service Association on November 18, 1969, a resolution was carried to the effect that the association affiliate to H.A.R.T., and the payment of the $lO affiliation fee be approved. Those opposing the motion expressed the view seemingly, that the objects of the organisation were outside association policy and individuals could make up their own minds

whether or not they joined. A move to have the matter referred back to sections was rejected. Individual members, it seems, were not even consulted. I am opposed to H.A.R.T., because in my view it interferes with one of the rights we fought for — the basic right of all New Zealanders to enjoy freedom in sport and play with whom they will. Wherr then is the justice and morality of H.A.R.T. claimed by your correspondent Toby Truell? —Yours, etc., VULCAN February 24, 1975.
