Profit on tour assured
(From R. T. BRITTENDEN) AUCKLAND. Crowds of 20,000 and 14,000 at the week-end of the first test have made the M.C.C. visit to New Zealand a profitable one. The charges at Eden Park for adults were S2, or $3 for the main stand. The receipts from the match totalled $52,800, and the Wellington match earlier yielded $BOOO. This total of 560.000 is already well clear of the break even point of $50,000. At Christchurch, the adult charge is only $1.50, but given good weather at this match and in the two one-day fixtures which end the, tour, both the New Zealand Cricket Council and the M.C.C. should benefit handsomely. The M.C.C. came with a guarantee or a percentage of the gross receipts, whichever was the greater: the percentage arrangement will count, and present indications are that the M.C.C. will take the best part of $30,000.
