Plunket Shield changes likely
(From

The future structure of New Zealand cricket will be the most important item on the agenda for the meeting in Christchurch next Monday of the New Zealand Cricket Council’s board of control.
It was announced recently that Shell Oil (N.Z.), Ltd, would help sponsor an extension of the first-call programme and that the change would be made next season.
The board will bring down a format for the new season, and perhaps for the next few seasons. But its planning will not be disclosed until the next evening, at a function at which this season’s Shell awards for outstanding ini dividual performances during The Plunket Shield series will be presented. i There are various ways in (which an extended Plunket Shield season might be arranged, and it may be assumed that with such sponsorship as Shell has offered, the sponsor would be invited to use its name in the new competition. It seems likely that the Plunket Shield might be awarded for some other important competition. Another item on the agenda will be the organisation of programmes for the new regional coaching clinics. Concentrated coaching on a regular basis in minor association areas is planned.
