Addington Raceway
Sir, — )n comparison to the facilities provided at Addington Raceway those at Alexandra Park for the recent interdominion series were first-class. 1 speak as a young patron who regularly attends race meetings at Addington, both in the public and members’ stands. For too long the clubs at Addington have relied on highstandard races to attract patrons. The public bar facilities are reminiscent in design and decor of the lowest standard New Zealand drinking conditions. Auckland with a capacity crowd could offer six varieties of bottled beer in surroundings fit for both female and male patrons. While realising that alterations are under way at Addington, I wonder if they will reduce the size of the present low standard public bar and subsequently provide lounge bar facilities. When can we expect an infield totalisator and improved catering facilities? The days of a pie and a seven ounce beer went out with six o’clock closing. — Yours, etc., D. J. M. February 20, 1975.
